Telehealth therapy

Secure video sessions with the same clinicians who see patients in our offices. We’ve offered telehealth since 2016.

How it works

1

Get your link

Before your appointment, you’ll receive a secure video link.

2

Get set up

A few minutes early, find a private space, open the link and check your camera and microphone.

3

Join your session

Your clinician admits you to the session and confirms where you are located for the visit.

4

Switch as needed

You can switch between telehealth and in-person sessions as your needs change.

Is telehealth right for me?

For most adults and teens, telehealth works as well as meeting in person, and some people find it easier to open up from home. It works well for therapy for anxiety, depression, stress and life changes, couples sessions, many trauma treatments, medication follow-ups, and some parts of psychological testing.

For young children, in-person sessions usually work better, and we decide case by case. Some testing must be done in person.

Telehealth is not for emergencies

Telehealth is not appropriate for managing an acute mental health crisis. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 or call 911.

Privacy and security

Sessions use a secure, encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video service and are never recorded. Please join from a private room where you won’t be interrupted. Headphones help keep your conversation private.

If you share a home and finding privacy is hard, talk to us. We’re happy to help you think through options.

What you’ll need

  • A computer, tablet or smartphone with a camera and microphone. A computer or tablet works best.
  • A reliable internet connection.
  • A private, quiet space.
  • Usually no software to install: the link opens in your browser, or in an app on a phone or tablet.

Where you need to be

You need to be physically in Colorado for each telehealth session, because our clinicians are licensed in Colorado. Some clinicians have additional licenses or interstate authorization, so if you’ll be traveling, ask your clinician before your session.

For your safety, please don’t join a session while driving.

Insurance

Most insurance plans cover telehealth therapy. We’ll confirm your telehealth benefits when we verify your coverage.

Common questions

Will I see the same clinician every time?

Yes. Just as with in-person therapy, you’ll work with the same clinician.

Can I switch an appointment to telehealth if I can’t make it in?

Usually, yes. Call our office or message through the Patient Portal.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

For most concerns, research and our experience say yes. Talk with your clinician about what fits you.
